The Inspector gives you additional tools for exploring, testing and debugging your Flock XR project.
You can use it to explore your scene, change visual effects, check how your project is performing, capture images and videos, and access additional project tools and settings.
Open the Inspector
To open the Inspector:
- Select the menu button in Flock XR.
- Select Tools.
- Select Inspector.
The Inspector opens as a panel on the right-hand side of the screen.
You can also pop out the Inspector and reposition it, which can be useful if you want more space to work with your project.
Explore your project
The Inspector includes a Scene Explorer, which lets you explore the elements that make up your 3D scene.
It also contains a range of panes with additional information and controls, including:
- Properties
- Debug
- Statistics
- Project Authoring
- Tools
- Settings
The options available within these panes give you more control over your project and can help when developing, testing and optimising your 3D world.
What can I do with the Inspector?
There are lots of ways you can use the Inspector while developing a Flock XR project.
Experiment with lighting and materials
Use the Inspector’s controls and toggles to experiment with lighting and material effects in your scene.
This can be a useful way to explore how different settings affect the appearance of your project.
Check your project’s performance
Open Statistics to explore information about how your project is performing.
Performance statistics can help you make decisions when optimising your project, particularly as your 3D world becomes more complex.
Capture your project
You can also use Inspector tools to capture your Flock XR project.
Depending on what you want to create, you can capture:
- screenshots
- videos
- animated GIFs
These can be useful for sharing your work or recording what happens when your project runs.
Using the Inspector for the first time
You’ll need an internet connection the first time you use the Inspector on a device.
Make sure you’re connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data before opening it for the first time.
If you’re planning to use Flock XR somewhere without an internet connection, such as during a lesson, workshop or while travelling, open the Inspector once while you’re online beforehand.
After the Inspector has loaded for the first time, the files it needs are available on your device and you can use it offline.
Can I use the Inspector on a phone?
The Inspector is currently only available on larger screens.
If you’re using Flock XR on a phone or another small-screen device, the Inspector won’t be available.
Support for the Inspector on smaller screens may be added in the future.
Using Flock XR offline
Most of Flock XR can be used without an internet connection once it has been loaded on your device.
