How to use keyboard controls for the Flock XR main menu

Instructions designed for Release 2 of Flock XR coming Spring 2027

The main menu in Flock XR is in the top-left of the screen.

You can use the main menu to play or stop your project, change settings such as colour theme or language, and open demo projects.

You can move around the main menu using your keyboard.

Open the main menu

To open the main menu with your keyboard, use this shortcut:

Action	Mac	Windows
Open the main menu	cmd `⌘ + M`	`Ctrl + M`

When the main menu is open, look for the highlighted item. This shows which menu option your keyboard is currently selecting.

Move around the main menu

Use Tab to move forwards through the menu options.

Use Shift + Tab to move backwards.

Action	Mac	Windows
Move forwards	`Tab`	`Tab`
Move backwards	`Shift + Tab`	`Shift + Tab`
Choose selected option	`Enter`	`Enter`
Close	`Esc`	`Esc`

Press Enter when the option you want is selected.

Press Esc if you want to close the menu.

Use the burger menu

The burger menu is the menu button with three horizontal lines.

You can use the burger menu to find extra settings and options, including:

colour themes
language settings

To use the burger menu with your keyboard:

Open the main menu with cmd ⌘ + M on Mac or Ctrl + M on Windows.
Press Tab until the burger menu is selected.
Press Enter to open it.
The arrow keys to move through the options.
Press Enter to choose an option.
Press Esc to close the menu.

Change the colour theme

Flock XR lets you change the colour theme from the burger menu.

This can be useful if you want the screen to look different or feel easier to read.

To change the colour theme with your keyboard:

Open the main menu.
Press Tab until the burger menu is selected.
Press Enter.
Use the ↓ down arrow key to go to the colour theme option.
Use the → right arrow key to move into the theme choices
Use the ↓ down arrow key to choose the theme you want.
Press Enter again.

Change the language

You can also change the language from the burger menu.

To change the language with your keyboard:

Open the main menu.
Press Tab until the burger menu is selected.
Press Enter.
Use the ↓ down arrow key to go to the language option.
Use the → right arrow key to move into the language choices
Use the ↓ down arrow key to choose the language you want.
Press Enter again.

Open the demo menu

The demo menu lets you open example projects.

Demos are useful when you want to explore how Flock XR works or start from an example instead of a blank project.

To open the demo menu with your keyboard:

Open the main menu.
Press Tab until the demo menu is selected.
Press Enter.
Use the ↓ down arrow key to move through the demo options.
Press Enter to open the demo you want.

Play or stop your project

The main menu includes controls for playing and stopping your project.

Use Play when you want to run or test your project. Use Stop when you want to stop it running.

You can play your project quickly with this shortcut:

Play project	`cmd ⌘ + P`	`Ctrl + P`

To use play or stop from the main menu:

Open the main menu.
Press Tab until the play or stop button is selected.
Press Enter.

Open, save, or export

The main menu also includes options to open files and save or export your work.

You can use these keyboard shortcuts:

Action	Mac	Windows
Open file	`cmd ⌘ + O`	`Ctrl + O`
Save or export	`cmd ⌘ + S`	`Ctrl + S`

Quick steps

Press cmd ⌘ + M on Mac or Ctrl + M on Windows to open the main menu.
Press Tab to move forwards.

Tips for using the main menu

Look for the highlighted option before pressing Enter.
Use Tab one step at a time.
Press Esc if you are stuck or want to close a menu.
Demos are a good way to learn from examples.
Save your work before opening a different project or demo.

Troubleshooting

The main menu did not open

Check that you used the right shortcut for your device.

I cannot get to the burger menu

Press Tab to move forwards through the main menu. If you go too far, press Shift + Tab to move backwards.

I opened the wrong menu

Press Esc to close the menu.

I cannot find the colour theme or language settings

Open the burger menu first. Colour theme and language settings are inside the burger menu.

I cannot remember the shortcuts

Open the keyboard controls menu.
