Flock XR works on touchscreen devices such as phones and tablets.
You can use touch controls to create and edit your projects, interact with objects on the Canvas, and control projects you have created — without needing a mouse or trackpad.
Tap to select and open tools
On a touch device, you can tap to:
- open toolbox categories
- edit blocks
- select objects in your scene
- enable scene gizmos to move, scale or rotate objects
- open menus and controls
Many actions that you would normally perform by clicking with a mouse can be performed by tapping the screen.
Drag to build and edit
You can use your finger to work with your code and 3D world.
For example, you can:
- move and arrange code blocks
- connect blocks
- position objects on the Canvas
- interact with scene controls
- adjust the camera view
To prevent accidental dragging while scrolling, blocks must be selected before you can move them.

Use the on-screen keyboard
When you need to enter text, your device’s on-screen keyboard will open automatically.
You might use the keyboard to:
- search for blocks
- update text or values inside a block
- rename objects
- change project details
Interact with projects using touch
You can also use the touchscreen when you run a Flock XR project.
Depending on how a project has been created, you might use touch controls to:
- tap buttons and other interactive elements
- interact with objects
- move around a 3D world
- control a character or camera
- use on-screen controls such as a joystick
The controls available depend on how the project has been created.
Add controls to your Canvas
You can add on-screen controls to your own projects using Flock XR’s Canvas controls blocks.
These let you create projects that can be controlled directly from a touchscreen.
For example, you can add buttons that players tap to perform actions such as:
- jump
- move
- run an animation
- activate an effect
You can also add a touch joystick, which lets players control movement by dragging the joystick with their finger.
This makes it possible to create games and interactive experiences designed to work on phones and tablets as well as computers.
