Add on-screen controls for the Flock XR camera

Contents

Instructions designed for Release 2 of Flock XR coming Spring 2027

You can add on-screen buttons to control the free camera in Flock XR.

This gives you an alternative to using keyboard controls and is particularly useful when you’re exploring a Flock XR world on a touchscreen device.

👉 See Flying around the world in Flock XR for full keyboard controls.

    Add the button controls

Add the button controls block to your code.

Set button controls to both to display the movement and action buttons on the Canvas.

Choose enabled if you want the buttons to be shown on all devices.

You can also set their colour.

When you run your project, the controls appear on the Canvas.

    Move the camera

By default, use the on-screen arrow buttons to move the free camera around your Flock XR world:

    • Up arrow – move forwards
    • Down arrow – move backwards
    • Left arrow – move left
    • Right arrow – move right

These provide an on-screen alternative to using the arrow keys on a physical keyboard.

Move the camera up and down

You can also use the numbered action buttons to move vertically:

    • Button 1 – move the camera up
    • Button 3 – move the camera down

This lets you explore your 3D world in different directions without needing the Page Up and Page Down keyboard controls.

Use the controls with the Fly camera

The on-screen buttons also work when you use the Fly camera mode available through the camera gizmo.

This means you can use the same on-screen controls to fly around your scene while you’re building and exploring your Flock XR world.

👉 See Flying around the world in Flock XR for full keyboard controls.

    Why use on-screen camera controls?

On-screen controls give you another way to navigate a Flock XR world when a physical keyboard isn’t available or isn’t convenient to use.

    They can be particularly useful:

    • on phones and tablets
    • on touchscreen computers
    • when using Flock XR without a physical keyboard
    • when you find on-screen controls easier to use than keyboard shortcuts
    • on keyboards that don’t have a page up or page down button

The keyboard and on-screen controls provide different ways to perform the same camera movements, so you can choose the method that works best for you.
